2009 Uganda Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies Identified
BTL Advertising, a Public Relations and communications firm was announced winner of the Uganda's Top 100 mid-sized companies on 28 October 2009 at a colourful award Gala event held at Kampala Serena Hotel.

HITECH Cables, emerged second while Kasese Nail and Wood industry emerged third. Kasese Nail and Wood industry also emerged top Rural Champion special category. Others that won in special categories included Victoria seeds limited in shareholder value champion, HITEC Cables in working capital management and Victoria Seeds limited in Women Entrepreneur.

The chief quest was the Minister of State for Investment Hon. Aston Kajara.

The Uganda Top 100 Mid-sized companies' survey is an initiative of Monitor Publications, represented by Daily Monitor and KPMG Uganda t to identify the fastest growing companies in order to showcase business excellence while also highlighting some of the country's most successful entrepreneurship stories. The project was sponsored by Stanbic Bank Uganda, HP and Sage/Pastel.

Nation Media Group and KPMG East Africa have carried out similar surveys in Kenya over the past two years and have brought owners of the top mid-sized companies to network and share experiences.

Statistics show that small and medium sized businesses contribute over 75 per cent of the country's wealth and provide over 70 per cent of the jobs Uganda.

The Uganda Top 100 Gala event which drew delegates from as far as South Africa plus Kenya was also attended by Nation Media Group Chairman, Dr. Martin Aliker and KPMG East Africa Managing Partner Mr Josphat  Mwaura and other regional and local captains of industry. Dr Gitahi Githinji, the MD of Monitor Publications and Mr Benson Ndung'u of KPMG Uganda graced the occasion.

The annual survey was open to businesses and voluntary. The entry criteria was annual turnover of range of Ug.shs 360 million to 25 billion with exception of Insurance companies and Banks.
